Skate United Tech Contest

Sunday, April 28th, Ollie’s Skatepark in Florence, KY is hosting a tech area skate contest. Skate-United is a chance to get all of the Greater Cincinnati skate shops like Blacklist, Galaxie, Anonymous, Demented, and Konkrete City together to support local skateboarding. The shops and brands will be selling well priced hard and softgoods as well as pooling together for prize packages on top of the CASH PRIZE. The tech contest will be divided into “under 13″ and “14 and up” categories and is $10 to enter without an all day pass.

Cosmic Riders at Damn Am ATL

The Lexington Cosmic Crew with team manager Josh Roberts, Micah Wu, Elijah Jones and David Wu met up with the Louisville Crew which included Wayne Krauth, Adrian Sisk, Michael Montgomery, John Clemmons, Matthew Sisk and Sarah Sisk. Salih Muhammad, the Pride of WV completed Cosmic’s presence at Damn Am Atlanta.

On Friday Micah skated in the bowl jam getting the attention of the judges with his smooth style and 50/50 270 out. On Saturday we had qualifiers. Elijah was ripping it in practice consistently hitting those kf backlips on the handrail. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when he turned his ankle just minutes before the contest began. Adrian, who was in the second jam skated clean, only touching ground 2 times in the 3 minute jam. He destroyed the stair set with a nollie flip and switchflip that looked as easy as walking. Adrian had the cleanest set out of Cosmic’s presence.

Micah in jam 12 began with four tricks to elbow crusher on a failed bs lip on the handrail. He skated 3 minutes with a broken elbow landing a fs noseblunt on the big ramp. Salih spent more time in the air than on the ground. It comes from all the mountain skating he does in WV. He landed a 360 melon over the flybox, airwalk on the big quarter plus several other airs. The trip was a great time.

Greenskate 2013

On Saturday, April 20, Friends for Skateparks will host a 1-mile fun ride from Woodland Park to the WRFL lawn in front of University of Kentucky’s Student Center (corner of S. Limestone and Avenue of Champions). Participants are encouraged to skate, walk, bike or skateboard to show support of action sports as a healthy and environmentally-friendly alternative mode of transportation, while also demonstrating support for the development of action sports facilities within the Lexington Parks & Recreation system.

The event format and route are designed to encourage use of bike lanes and participation by all ages and levels of skill. At the finish line, food, prize give-aways, swag and live music from local band J. Marinelli and WRFL DJ’s will commence.

Friends for Skateparks is a non-profit that formed in 2011 to raise awareness for the health and cultural benefits of increased action sports facilities. The group is working on developing funding and support for expanding skateparks in Lexington, Ky

THE DEATHWISH VIDEO Premiere 4/19

Coming up April 19th, we’re having a video premiere for The Deathwish Video due out 4/21/13. This video has been in the works for a long time and promises to be sickening. We’re going to have free pizza, Monster, and giveaways. Our premiere will be held in the community room behind our Jefferson Mall location.

Public meeting for new skatepark in Lexington

On April 9th, there will be a public meeting held at Woodland Park in Lexington to discuss a potential new skatepark to be constructed in Berry Hill Park. The forum will hear arguments for and against the new park, so if you have thoughts on the matter, let them be heard. Packing the skatepark at Woodland at 6pm on this day is a great way for local skaters to demonstrate how much Lexington could use a new park.

There is a second meeting on the same date at Victory Baptist Church (2261 Armstrong Mill Rd, Lexington, KY 40515)
